Exim is a pretty good MTA, and does not have all of the security problems that sendmail seems to run into. But, out-of-the-box experience is a little lacking. Many of Exim's best features need to be 'turned on.' Here are some of the more common tweaks that people like to have installed:

    - Making Exim properly reject email is very important to keeping the size of your mail queue reasonable. Exim does not reject mail bound for nonexistent email addresses at the server level by default.

    - Implement Real time Blocking Lists to reduce incoming spam.

    - Install MailScanner to protect your clients from viruses.

    - Whitelists, blacklists and global SpamAssassin changes.
